The Internet is being used in many ways to make money, so it's only natural that it be used to raise money for online fundraisers.  Convenience is part of the deal, so people will be able to give money to a cause without having to do a whole lot.  It's important that we all give a little once in a while, especially when delicious cookies are involved.
